  • Meet JanetMy husband, Phil Venecz, is a lifetime resident of Hammond and a retired Steelworker

  • I have two children and four grandchildren.  My son and my son-in-law are Local 597 Pipefitters.  My daughter is a stay at home mom.

  • Both of my children are Hammond property owners and taxpayers

  • Three of our four grandchildren attend our Hammond Public Schools

  • Our family is a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hammond

  • I am a former business owner and insurance agent

  • It has been an honor to serve the residents of the City of Hammond.  I have striven to always deliberate with fairness and equity to contribute to the quality of life for the betterment and stability of Hammond. 

    I believe in Hammond and our residents.  I'm very excited about our future and I'm confident that Hammond will continue to grow through the combined efforts of all of us.

 

My Service to You

The following are just a few of the ways I’ve served YOU and your community …..

  • Fulfilled my pledge to be your FULLTIME Councilwoman.

  • Worked and been visible in the entire city throughout the year - not just at election time.

  • Continued my activity with Community & Crime Watch.

  • Secured funding through the Mayor’s Gaming Grant to resurrect the Free Security Light Program.

  • Attend ribbon cuttings in support of businesses that have chosen to come to our city.

  • Utilize the Hammond 311 App to help keep our city clean and address Code violations.

  • Remove illegally posted advertising signs on poles.

  • Chaired the By-Laws Committee for the Hammond Public Library Foundation.

  • Served on the HAST Graduation Committee for the historic first graduating class.

  • Attend Resident meetings at the Hubert Humphrey building to address resident concerns.

  • Work with seniors at Mt Zion Pleasant View Plaza& Golden Manor regarding quality of life issues.

  • Organized clean ups at City Hall, Ophelia Steen and the Boys & Girls Club.

  • Directed several young people to get summer jobs and jobs at Festival of the Lakes.

  • Return all phone calls, emails, FB messages.

  • Communicate with city departments to resolve issues.

  • Developed polite & courteous relationships City Departments.

  • Introduce meaningful ordinances for the protection of our residents.

  • Stood with our Mayor in making some very tough decisions.

  • I support our city - I don’t suggest impropriety or make accusations.

  • I have represented you and the City of Hammond with dignity & integrity throughout the year - not just at election time.

For these reasons ….. and many more, I respectfully ask for your vote on
May 5th to continue to serve you as your Councilwoman At Large.
